| | Xenosaga Soundtrak- Ormus | ] | Well, just woke up, but before any of you people bitch about how I can get up at 3pm, remember I work nights. 3pm for me is like waking up at 5am for people with a 9-5 job. At any rate, forgot to update this morning when I got home from work, and, sinc eI'm trying to maintain semi-regular schedule with this thing, I thought I 'd post something now.
Setting up my folders for my writing projects finally. Need to get organized, it's going to be a bitch to keep this all straight as it is. Glad I got my new printer, since I can actually print stuff now. An it was a hell of an upgrade. Went from an old, old, old HP DeskJet 500 to an HP PSC 1610 All-In-One. The DeskJet didn't work anymore, hasn't for some time, and I saw the new printer in the store in the other night. Talked it over with Maichen, and she gave me permission to buy it. SOmetimes my wife indulges my little whims.
Got a few art pieces for two of the projects, good, inspiritational stuff. Story outlines are coming along, even though they're rough as hell at the moment. Still have to sit down and start learning web design, nothing fancy. BUt I am gonna have to learn about php scripting, how to build decent frames, and a whole host of other things. Shouldn't be too hard, just time consuming. Oh, well. I want to do this, guess I have to do the work.
You know, I always wanted to be a writer, and I thought that always meant novels. When I was kid, I thought comic book writers had the easiest writing gig known. I realized how dumb that thought was years ago, but I don't think it really clicked in my mind until I started working on these projects. We haven't even started on the real concept art or the teaser yet, and I can already see how much work it's gonna be. As the kind of writer who prefers to write novels and the like, I find myself forced to write less, but say just as much. I can't dictate art style, I can only suggest layout, and the ultimate story has to be a collabaration (I know I spelled it wrong) between myself and the artist. My problem is I like being in charge too much. Hasn't been a problem yet, mainly because I've become mature enough over the years to rein in that part of my personality when I need to. I'm just worried that it'll rear its ugly head whenI get really into the project, and lead to a disagreement. I don't think we'd have a fight, but it could make things tense.
Still, it's going well, I think. Probably won't have the comic up before the first of the year, I think. Just timing with work and gaming for myself, and school, work, and gaming for the artist. Plus, we both have SOs we live with, who deserve as much time as our artistic endeavors. I think we're doing an okay job of balancing all that, but I know myself. I'm going to get fired up about this, and want to work, work, work on it, and the artist simply won't have the time. (And yes, I know I'm not saying who the artist is. DOn't know if the person wants the name given out. He/She gets enough msgs about artwork as it is. *shrug* I'll ask.)
At any rate, thought I'd close with a random writing moment, as is my habit some days...
-He stood slowly, placing ihis hands on the table before him, letting his cold, grey eyes sweep those who remained seated. "I have tolerated this long enough," he said softly, but everyone could hear the clipped speech. "I have spent the last eight days watching you argue amongst yourselves, attempt to cut backroom deals, and basically try to get everything you can for yourselves out of this. Now, let me tell you how this works." He pointed to one individual. "Your people rely on us for manufacturing and transportation of so many goods it boggles the mind. That's true of everyone here to some extent, but it is your people who rely on it the most. Now, I have watched and listened, and I've come to the realization that your only concern is not the world at large, as you say, but your own petty power base, and damn the lesser citizens." Anger blazed forth as he leaned forward. "You will cease. You might think me weak politically, and that our people are fractures, and unable to band together when we need to. But you're wrong. Throughout history, we have become the most powerful single nation on the planet. I know this concerns you, and this is why you are stealing evey iota of trade you can get away with. Since you're so fond of deals, I'll make you one." He straightened up and began to walk slowl around the table. "YOu see, my country is no stranger to hard times, or to the economic realities of the world. If we wanted to, we could cease any and all trade with you. Instead, we lower our taxes and tariffs a small amount, and open trade to everyone else in the world. The individual profits go down, but the overall profit stays the same, or even increases. Think about it. Sell something at a 1 dollar profit to one guy, or something at a 30 cent profit to five guys. oh, I know the economics of the world is more complicated than that, but we can make it work. We've done it in the past." He smiled slightly. "So, here's the deal. WE maintain trade with you, we keep going as we have been." And he suddenly stopped right behind the individual's chair. "You, however, stop this massive military build-up you've had going on for over a year. The world knows about it, but our media hasn't been reporting it very much. Nothig to concern us with yet. But if I go before the people of my country and speak on NOTHING else for an hour, I can garuntee you they'll start to be concerned. Threatening our allies is the same as threatening us, sir. Neither of us can afford a way. The difference between us on this point is simple, though." HE smiled again, a predator's smile. "We've always fought wars we couldn't afford. Look through our history. Every conflict we've fought has cost us money, lives, and resources we couldn't afford to spend. The last few wars have netted us almost nothing in material or monetary gain, when all is said and done. But we fought them anyway, didn't we? And we won all but one of them. Hell, we should have one that one, but for certain political issues. Issue which will no arise between us, if that horrid day comes. "Think on it. Think on it hard. No matter how people think, we've always come to the aid of our allies when the chips are finally down. And we have the force of will to make it happen. Do not push my people, or you will be pushed right back off the cliff you're dancing on."-
Okay, a little obvious for those who pay attention to current political trends, and I know it'd never happen, but I've got my hopes. BTW, for those who disagree with my political stance and want to tear it apart, you won't be able to say anything I haven't considered. Just keep something in mind. Certain countries of the world are using our money, resources, and goods to stage a military build up that will allow them to attack and overhwhelm one of our allies in less than three years. The question is, what do we do about it? Think I'm wrong? The research is there, but it ain't in the news. Do a little digging. IT frightens me. We could be at war in less than three years of something goes wrong, and I'm not talking the cake walk of the Iraq invasion. A war we haven't seen in two generations. A little daunting.
Anyway, I'm done. Enough pontificating. |
